Classroom expectations

Every student has the right to an education in a safe, Catholic environment and to be treated with respect. Our school’s code of conduct is based on the Catholic values promoted at Holy Trinity Catholic High School. A detailed version of our school’s Code of Conduct can be found at the beginning of your agenda.

When in my class, your child is expected to follow the following expectations. We will spend the first few classes in September going over these expectations to ensure that they are clear to everyone. I expect that your child follows these principles of behaviour whenever and wherever my classes are taking place (Learning Commons, gymnasium, atrium, field trip, etc.)  Please read an overview of my classroom expectations and make sure that your child understands them and is willing to follow them.

Our class Code of Conduct can be summarized into seven statements which will be applied in our class at all times.

A student in Mme O'Flaherty's class:
  • is respectful to himself/herself and others, this includes their peers, other teachers, administration, supply teachers and classroom guests.
  • keeps our classroom safe by following our classroom routines.
  • takes care of his/her belongings as well as those of others.
  •  arrives to class on time with all the necessary materials.
  •  completes his/her homework and assignments according to the due dates.
  •  uses technology respectfully and productively.
  •  is ready to learn without disrupting the other students.

Other standards of behaviour include:

- Behaviour that negatively affects the right to learn, safety and well being of others will not be permitted.

- Students are not permitted to touch the belongings of others without their consent.

- Personal items such as inappropriate toys, weapons, iPods & headphones, cell phones, sports gear (baseball bats, hockey sticks, etc.) and any item that administration identify as being inappropriate for school use are NOT to be brought to class, unless part of a school project and only after consulting with Mme O'Flaherty.

- Wrongful throwing of objects, such as paper into the recycle bin from a distance,  is unacceptable.

- Trash and recycling items must be placed in the bins provided. When discarding trash items, students must walk over to the bins and place items into the correct bin.

- All food and drink are to be eaten only in designated areas at designated snack times. Snack must be healthy in nature. No chips, chocolate bars, pop or any other item that is unhealthy will be permitted. Food that is deemed unhealthy may be consumed during lunch and not during morning snack. A snack may be consumed during the first 10 minutes of period 3. No other food or drink (with the exception of water) may be consumed during class time unless Mme O'Flaherty's permission has been granted.

- Chewing gum will not be permitted. Students are to dispose of their gum before entering the classroom.

- Peanuts and peanut products are not to be consumed in the class due to allergies.

- Students are expected to maintain a clean classroom environment and are not to leave their personal items on the floor at the end of class. They are to take all of their belongings with them.

- Before class begins, students are to line up in two single-file lines against the lockers with their backs to the window. They are to wait quietly until the teacher invites them into the classroom. They are to enter quietly and find their seat quickly by using the aisles and not by jumping over desks.

- Permission from the office or a parental letter must be obtained for a student to leave the classroom during school hours.

- Students are to arrive on time for class. Late arrival will require a note from the office, Student Services or another teacher.

- Use of bathroom is to be done during breaks. If using the bathroom before class, students are to arrive early and obtain teacher permission.

- All textbooks will remain in the classroom. Should a student require to borrow a textbook,     they can see Mme O'Flaherty to sign one out.

- Notebooks and worksheets are to be kept clean, tidy and free of rips and tears. They are not to be crumpled or folded unless directed by the teacher. Students are not permitted to draw, doodle or scribble on any part of their notebooks or worksheets.

- Students must use pencils. Pens are not permitted unless they are being used for revision of work or a special project.

- Students must follow the school dress code, as outlined in their agenda. Students will be asked to change or be sent to the office if they are not able to follow the school dress code.
