March 8th to 12th

 History:

This week is starting with an open-book test on life in New-France between 1713. Students have access to everything in Workspace to complete this task. From there we will further explore what life was like in New-France after 1713. We will read about and discuss rising tensions in New-France surrounding who controls the territory. This will take us to our study of the Treaty of Utrecht and how it changed the landscape of New-France for good.

Religion:

Students are working on their Ten Commandments Brochure this week. They will have all week to complete this assignment in which they will take a deeper dive into analyzing each one of the commandments. This assignment is due next Monday for 7-1, 7-2, and 7-3.

Art:

Students are continuing their Jungle Art project.

March 1st to 5th

 History:

We will start this week off by examining the government in New-France between 1713. We will look at how it worked and how it is organized. Students will review a note before completing corresponding comprehension questions. From there, we will be taking some time to examine objects that were important in the establishment and development of New-France. Our third class of the week will be dedicated to review. There will be an open-book test next week; Monday for 7-1 & 7-2 and Tuesday for 7-3.

Religion:

This week we continue our study of the Ten Commandments. Students are presenting their comic strips on one of the Ten Commandments. From there, they will embark on an individual reflection activity of all of the Ten Commandments.

Art:

We are starting a new project this week - Jungle Art. Students will create their own piece of jungle art while using Henri Rousseau's jungle art as inspiration. We will be taking a couple of weeks to complete this assignment.

February 22nd to 26th

 History:

This week we are continuing to review key groups of people and events before 1713. We will do a video analysis of some Heritage Moment videos to identify the importance of certain people and events and the role they played in the development of Canada. Students will then read about all of the different groups of people that lived in New-France before 1713.

Religion:

This week, we return to our study of the Ten Commandments. After doing an introductory activity, students are creating a comic strip in which they will present an example of someone who follows a commandment of their choice and someone who doesn't. They will present their work next week. This is an evaluated task.

Art:

Students have one more work period for their portfolio assignment. During the second class of the week, they will present their work.

February 15th to 19th

 History:

This week we will begin to review the key events and groups of people before 1713 through discussion, image analysis, and a series of videos.

Religion:

This week we will talk about Ash Wednesday and Lent. Students will make a Lenten Commitment for the period of Lent, leading up to Easter.

Art:

Students are continuing to work on their portfolios. They are to pick a theme in order to demonstrate unity and harmony within their artwork.

February 8th to 12th

 History:

This week, we begin History. To begin, students will reflect on what History means to them. They will then prepare a Coat of Arms that represents their own history and present it to the class.

From there, we will begin to explore important events and groups of people leading up to 1713 in British North America, where our curriculum begins.

Religion:

We begin a new unit on The Ten Commandments. This week students will reflect on the idea of respect, as an introduction before jumping in to explore the Ten Commandments and what they mean.

Visual Arts:

We begin Visual Arts this week. Students have been asked to have a pencil, eraser, and pencil crayons for the course. We will begin with an introduction to visual arts before students begin their first project. Their first project will be to present the idea of unity and harmony while creating a portfolio cover.

January 25th to 29th

 Geography:

Students are spending the beginning of the week preparing for an assessment. The assessment will take place on Wednesday, January 27th for all classes. It is based on what we have studied during the Natural Resources Unit. A document with everything students need to know was posted in Workspace last week along with a Quizlet that they are welcome to use as a study tool.

Religion:

Students are working on a research project this week. The project is based on organizations that exist to help teens in need. Students did some preliminary research on Monday before choosing one organization to explore in more detail. Students will be demonstrating their findings by creating a poster or a slide deck. This is due next week; Tuesday for 7-1 & 7-2 and Wednesday for 7-3.

Drama:

We are starting a very short unit on Characterisation. Students will be introduced to the concept this week through a note and a couple of Youtube clips. They will then have an activity linked to what was discussed in class. 

January 18th to 22nd

 Geography:

This week in Geography, we will continue to explore how humans exploit natural resources. We will examine mining techniques as well as forestry techniques. Students will then read about and reflect on their ecological footprint and how they can reduce it.

As we approach the end of the Natural Resources Unit, there will be a short test. The test will take place on Wednesday, January 27th. In Workspace, students can find a document that outlines exactly what they need to know for the test. 

Religion:

We are continuing to examine and explore God's love. This week students will have two classes to find a story about love in the news and complete some reflection questions on it. We will then read a text and have a discussion about a parent's love.

Drama:

Students are finishing up their Voice Projection Project this week. It is due Thursday for 7-3 and Friday for 7-1 and 7-2. From there, students will have some time to listen to each others' projects and complete a peer-evaluation activity.

January 11th to 15th

 Happy New Year!

As we enter into our second week of remote learning, here are a few reminders:

- We are still required to take attendance. If your son or daughter is going to miss class for any reason, please contact the office to let them know.

- We are meeting as a class at the beginning of each period for attendance, discussions, and instructions.

- All work is posted in Workspace. There is a weekly checklist for each subject to help students stay on top of the tasks.

- I am available for questions during class via Google Meet. Students can also email me with their questions if they prefer that method of communication.

- There will still be a couple of assessments that will be contributed to the mark that your son or daughter receives on the February report card.

Geography:

Since the return of school, we have been working on a new unit exploring natural resources. We have been looking at the difference between a natural resource and a manufactured product, the three types of natural resources (renewable, non-renewable, and permanent) as well as how these natural resources are used around the world. Still, to come this week, we will be comparing a need to a want and we will begin to explore how natural resources are exploited and used by humans.

Religion:

Last week, students did some reflective work on the Epiphany through the examination of a piece of art work, reading, and reflection.

We started this week off with a reflection of their goals for 2021. It is important to note that this is an assessment and it will be marked. It is due today for 7-1 and 7-2 and tomorrow for 7-3.

From there, we will begin a new unit on God's Love. For the remainder of this week, they will reflect on what it means to be loved, how they are loved, and how they show their own love.

Drama:

We are continuing with our unit on Voice. This week students will be working on the assessment for this unit. They will follow the Creative Process to write a story that includes three assigned objects. They will then record themselves reading their story while employing various voice techniques.
